The predictable reaction of Democrats to the State of the Union address and the equally predictable second guessing of our Commander-in-Chief while the nation is in a war for its survival should make us ask this question:  what if President Bush was a Democrat?  Would Republicans rally around a Democrat President Bush?  Of course: Republicans did support President Johnson during the Vietnam War.  Why do Democrats oppose President Bush right now?  They oppose him simply because he is a Republican.

A new dawn is rising for the Democratic Party!  Fresh from their midterm election victories, their night of gleeful celebration is ending.  The champagne has gone flat.  The Party horns are soggy and worn out.  The warm and fuzzy cooing of the hookers isn’t turning anyone on anymore, and the hangover has already started for many.

Last Friday we held our Conservative State of the Union forum, the continuation of a successful series of broadcast and usually telecast panel discussions. It draws a big response. Many people appreciate that the Free Congress Foundation puts forth a conservative viewpoint independent of Congress and the White House. People may disagree with this or that policy of the Bush Administration and of the last Congress. Many conservatives now realize that things could be worse given that the leadership of Congress is now in the hands of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-NV).

Last week jury selection got underway in the trial of I. Lewis Libby, Jr., the former chief of staff to Vice President Cheney.  Libby is accused of lying to a grand jury and the FBI investigating who leaked the name of CIA operative Valerie Plame to the media.  Plame’s name first appeared in a July 14, 2003 column by Robert Novak, indicating that she worked at the CIA and was married to former ambassador and Iraq war critic Joseph C. Wilson IV.

I don’t get puzzled easily by something puzzling. But I have never quite figured out why professional pundits insist on telling TV audiences what the President will say in his State of the Union speech before he says it.

As politics go, George. W. Bush may well have Christian Fundamentalists to thank for his victories at the poles but they’ve been misled. If they knew what kind of a Christian Bush really is they have a good reason to regret their association with him.

Whatever their views of President Bush’s new “surge” of 20,000 soldiers, both liberals and conservatives continue to claim that they support our troops. Liberals say they support our troops by criticizing or opposing “Operation Iraqi Freedom,” which they claim has unnecessarily killed 3,000 soldiers. Conservatives say they support our troops by supporting the mission that most of our troops believe in.

You know the routine.  Lump all the negative influences in your life together, and then, without bothering to analyze them too critically, throw them all out, because you deem them “detrimental to your well-being.” As many may well be.

Lt. Col. Oliver North must have felt like jumping out of his chair when Bill O’Reilly suggested the other night that his position on Iraq was comparable to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s cut-and-run approach. North, a Marine combat veteran in Vietnam and Fox News analyst who has been to Iraq many times to accompany U.S. troops on dangerous missions, opposes President Bush’s build-up of U.S. forces in Iraq not because he has given up on the cause of a free Iraq but because--and these are my words, not his--Bush doesn’t have the will to win.

As of 2005, Michigan held the largest and still growing Muslim population in the United States and the second largest Arab population outside of the Middle East.  Outside of Muslim-run countries, Paris - which still experiences nightly vehicle torchings and mayhem in its Islamic neighborhoods - has the largest.  It is estimated that eight million Muslims now live in the US and their numbers are continuing to grow.  Islam is now the second-largest religious body in the United States and is said to be its fastest growing religious movement.
