Craig Case: Congressional Arrogance at Work
Off Site Editor

Watching Sen. Larry E. Craig’s press conference about his encounter with a police officer in an airport men’s room, I wondered how anyone could be so arrogant as to think he could credibly claim that his only mistake was to plead guilty to the charge stemming from the seamy incident.

Illiterate nation: Reedin, righten, rithmatick

...Judging by the stuff appearing of late in the North American media, we are beginning to discover that our school system has been fairly well ruined by crackpot ideas, introduced in the 1950s by reformers of supposedly unchallengeable authority.

Tests for teachers

...As I searched my heart and my options back during my high school days, I decided I wanted to be a teacher. No particular academic subject fired this ambition… I simply felt a desire to affect positively the minds and direction of a lot of young people while I lived on this planet. So I figured I’d teach English, a happy middle of the road subject, and try to be a good role model like the many teachers who were influencing me.

Bush tax cuts must be extended
Off Site Editor

Democrats have only two arguments left against extending the Bush tax cuts, but recent data affirm that neither is valid. Sadly, though, Democrats will never abandon their claims because they fit so well into their class warfare template.

Hellary Rotten Clinton, what have you done?

Hillary just announced that her campaign will “increase our vigilance” when it comes to accepting money from well-heeled donors, also known as “bundlers.” Strangely enough, this comes after the discovery that a major Clinton fundraiser is on the lam from California authorities. Not that she demonstrates it often, but here’s a clear indication that Hillary’s sense of humor is alive and well.

A Pathetic Preemptive Strike

The Washington Post, working hand-in-glove with Democrats in Congress, has gotten out front in preparing the domestic battlefield for September’s fight over the war in Iraq. The Post led today’s paper with an account of a leaked draft report from the Congressionally-controlled Government Accountability Office (the GAO’s final report is due next Tuesday). The headline: “Report Finds Little Progress on Iraq Goals; GAO Draft at Odds with White House.” Here’s the good news: If this is the best war opponents have to offer, the administration is in amazingly good shape going into September.

Meet the Real Katie Couric
Off Site Editor

After more than two decades in which Dan Rather used his CBS Evening News anchor desk as a soapbox to punish conservatives and promote liberals - years in which the Evening News tumbled from the undisputed ratings leader to a poor third place among the nightly newscasts - CBS has elevated Katie Couric, the longtime co-host of NBC’s Today, to sit as Rather’s permanent replacement.

AP Runs Story on MRC, ‘Study: Democrats
Off Site Editor

The Associated Press on Wednesday night distributed a story on the MRC’s new study on how the ABC, CBS and NBC morning shows have devoted much more time this year to Democratic than Republican candidates for President. In “Study: Democrats Get More A.M. Airtime,” the AP’s David Bauder confronted network producers with the findings and they, naturally, denied any bias: “Network news executives rejected any suggestion of bias, and said they have a considerably harder time getting Republican candidates to appear on their shows.
