The Time Has Come To Close The Post Office

If ever there was a model for inefficiency. bloat, and incompetence it has to be the United States Postal Service. That organization’s own acceptance of low expectations and poor business practices now combined with advances in technology have rendered it completely obsolete.

Congress Should Not Dictate Mental Health Benefits
Big Brother
Thomas Bowden
Irvine, CA--By a unanimous vote, the Senate has approved the Mental Health Parity Act of 2007, which would forbid employers to offer less favorable insurance coverage for mental illness than for physical illness. Support for a similar measure is widespread in the House, so passage of a new federal law this year seems likely.

Why Zeke can’t take Shorty to the fair
Big Brother
Henry Lamb
Zeke lived with an FFA teacher because he had no other home. He worked for his room and board; he fed the pigs and chickens, and helped with the milking. The summer between the 8th and 9th grades, Jasper, the FFA teacher, took Zeke to a neighbor’s ranch and let him pick out a day-old Hereford bull for his first FFA project. The deal was that Jasper would pay for the calf, and for the feed, and Zeke could repay Jasper when the calf grew to become the Grand Champion Steer at the state fair, and sold at the fair’s annual auction.

Why the Fair Tax Won’t Work
Big Brother
Warner Todd Huston
In theory, I like the Fair Tax idea. I have to say, I find it completely illogical that many people today who earn up to $50,000 a year, end up paying no Federal taxes at all. Why, exactly, should they get away with paying nothing? It simply makes no sense that those in the highest tax brackets pay nearly all the taxes, and everyone else gets off free of charge. We all use the same government, after all. Why should it be free to so many?

Old Bridges and New Priorities
Big Brother
Offsite
As the Twin Cities struggle to return to normalcy in the aftermath of the collapse of the bridge along I-35, we will be subjected to the unseemly spectacle of politicians pointing fingers at each other. I am not interested in this political soap opera, but rather in the larger lessons we can learn from this tragedy.

Is private property the foundation of prosperity?
Big Brother
Henry Lamb
Is private property the foundation of prosperity? America’s founders were convinced that it is. For more than a century, the vast majority of Americans, and their elected representatives were convinced that it is. In the last half-century, the majority of Americans, and their elected representatives, have lost sight of this fundamental principle of freedom, and have allowed governments at every level to take, or to take control of, the foundation of prosperity for all Americans.
