I had a tremendously interesting experience early last week when I appeared on a media venue broadcasted out of the Northeastern U.S. It was a Christian-leaning afrocentric radio station with a blowtorch of a signal that reaches from Ontario to parts of Pennsylvania. I’d been approached by one of the hosts to discuss - once again - “Obamination”, my February 2007 expose on Trinity United Church in Chicago which is attended by presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

I have written a couple of articles, beginning in January (before Fred Thompson’s name was even being mentioned as a presidential candidate, much yet as the “Next Reagan") that Fred Thompson is the next Ronald Reagan of the Republican Party. Since my January article (which was entitled “The Next Reagan") the pundits first scoffed, then puzzled, and now rush to demonstrate just why Fred Thompson is not the next Reagan.

Attacks on Thompson Begin in Earnest

Well, it didn’t take long for the MSM to start their attacks on Fred Thompson now that he is in the race. We are seeing more and more of them each day. Over on Newsbusters, Mark Finkelstein(1) was curious what the line of attack would be and I found a few this week(2) myself. Today, we find the next MSM attack line of the day being Thompson’s supposed “lack of experience” for the office. Or in the phasing by Jennifer Rubin of the New York Observer; Thompson is “Like Reagan Without the New Ideas."(3) And, since Thompson supporters are warm to the idea that Fred is “like Reagan” it seems likely the MSM will delight in trying to paint Thompson as a faux Reagan because they know that this particular line of attack would harm him the most were his supporters to begin to believe it.

As a conservative, protestant Christian who takes his faith very seriously, I am deeply troubled by the attitude of many of my fellows on the Christian Right. James Dobson, a few months ago, questioned the Christianity of Fred Thompson, a man whose whole life has been a study in integrity and in decency. What motivated Dr. Dobson is a mystery to me, not only because Thompson would be incomparably more consistent values (whatever his theology) than any of the Democrat candidates, but because Dobson made his comment apparently without knowing the facts.

If you think our nation is being ruined by the two party System you should consider the huge mistake we made in 1913 by changing our Constitution to allow American citizens to vote our Senators into office. In the beginning and until 1913 we did not elect our Senators to that chamber as the Founders originally meant for them to be individually appointed to office by the legislatures of the various states.

Another Hillary Clinton connection to the phony media “watchdog” group Media Matters has surfaced. Susie Tompkins Buell, a major fundraiser for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, put $300,000 into the group through her Susie Tompkins Buell Foundation. Interestingly, while Tompkins Buell was swelling the bank account of Media Matters, which largely functions as a Hillary Clinton front group, her foundation was also putting $100,000 into The White House Project, an organization dedicated to promoting the election of a woman to the U.S. presidency. And we all know who that is.

Hillary’s Hit Man Strikes Again

Ben Smith of Politico.com reports that the first attack on a new book on Hillary Clinton came from Media Matters for America, “a Democratic-leaning group whose founders are close to the New York Democrat senator’s presidential campaign...” Bingo. It looks like the media may finally be coming to grips with how the Clinton machine operates. The Media Matters attack on a reporter for daring to co-author a book that is somewhat critical of the New York senator is provoking interest in the group’s ties to the Democratic presidential frontrunner. But there is far more to the story.
