SPJ Suggests ‘Omitting Race’ in Crime Reporting
MSM Warner Todd Huston

The Society of Professional Journalists(1) has decided that it is best to leave a suspect’s race out of crime reporting except for “extraordinary” reasons. Of course, to the SPJ, “good reporting” means race info in a story about crime isn’t “useful to people in the community” even if the race of a suspect is part of a police report apparently. Despite their claim that they aren’t toeing the PC line, their explanation is filled with just the sort of reasoning based on PC thinking—one of which is that all whites are racists.

The Unreal Ronald Kessler
MSM M. Stanton Evans

Like many other critics of Joe McCarthy, Ronald Kessler would be more persuasive if he knew something of the subject.

NC NBCer: ‘Smart’ Not Bothered by Wright, But Conservatives…
MSM Offsite

On the syndicated Chris Matthews Show, Kim Genardo, a political reporter for NBC’s Raleigh, North Carolina affiliate, WNCN-TV channel 17, divided North Carolinians into two categories—those who are “smart” and those who are “conservative”—as she predicted that “smart, educated” primary voters won’t be swayed by Jeremiah Wright but was unsure how “conservative, white, rural voters” would vote as she admitted she’s not “in touch with them.

CBS Slights Limbaugh any Credit for ‘Operation Chaos,’ Also Talk of Riots With Obama Loss
MSM Warner Todd Huston

It’s amusing how far some people will go not to give someone credit for something they have done especially if that deserving someone happens to be an ostensible political enemy. In this case we find CBS discussing Republican crossover voters in these primaries, the network newser telling us how crossovers will “skew primary results,” and then they tell us who is responsible for egging on these crossovers. Now, for those of you in the know, you’d automatically assume that CBS is talking about radio host Rush Limbaugh who has been carrying on his “operation chaos” program to encourage Republican voters to re-register as Dems to vote for Hillary, right?

Bad Information on McCarthy (McCarthy Part 10)
MSM Wes Vernon

One could spend all his waking hours trying to unsnarl the multiple misconceptions and outright lies about Senator Joe McCarthy that have been spread over the last half century. But since the latest to distort and beat down history appeared in a conservative (on economic and PC issues) newspaper, here we go again.

New York Times Attacking Textbook Makers, Veiled Attack on Capitalism
MSM Warner Todd Huston

College textbooks are overpriced and something should be done. Why, Congress should even step in! That is the message that The New York Times wants us to understand(1) and I can’t say it is, in and of itself, entirely the wrong message—save the whole bit about Congress stepping in, of course. But, as is typical of The New York Times, their story is only a small part of the whole story. In their exuberance to shake a finger at book manufacturers and in their hurry to blame capitalism the Times missed the bigger story.

The Times’ War Against the Vets
MSM Offsite

The New York Times must really have something against U.S. military veterans. In addition to diminishing almost every success and embellishing every set-back relating to the war in Iraq, the Times has now run two front-page articles smearing American war heroes.

‘Can The First Amendment’ Provision For The Press Survive?’

CNN’s Rick Sanchez Accused of Pushing Left Agenda in College Interviews
MSM Warner Todd Huston

On Monday morning, April 21st, CNN aired “America Votes 2008” with Rick Sanchez, (11:30 AM CT) a segment that featured reporter Sanchez visiting Penn State University to talk to some of the students about the upcoming Pennsylvania Democratic Primary. In the aftermath of CNN’s visit, some of the students involved in the taping are alleging that Sanchez was so virulently skewed to the left that he berated and bullied students who held a differing point of view. It was reportedly so bad that CNN crewmembers even apologized to several students for Sanchez’ incivility.

Media’s War Lies
MSM Offsite

LIKE many Americans, I get angry at biased “reporting” about Iraq and the spin from dishonest pundits. Usually, I get over it quickly, since my expectations of the media are pretty low.

‘Is Amazon.com Becoming a Publisher of Anti-Jew, Anti-US propaganda?
MSM Warner Todd Huston

Amazon.com sells millions of books, CDs and other products each year. So, we can’t necessarily expect the on-line retail giant to be morally responsible for every single last product and, where its book offerings are concerned, we shouldn’t ask them to become censors. But, selling a product someone else created and producing the product yourself are two different things. And, in this case, we might be seeing Amazon.com actually printing an anti-Jew, anti-US, “truther,” Holocaust denial book with their BookSurge subsidiary company. One wonders if Amazon.com is even aware they are suddenly in the business of publishing anti-semitic books?

60 Minutes Up to its Old Tricks
MSM Roger Aronoff

CBS’s 60 Minutes offered up a cleverly deceptive story that makes the U.S. government and military look extremely evil, building on a narrative that continues to damage American interests at home and abroad. The story, shown on March 30, was presented in such a way as to convince the audience that it has discovered some awful truths about a man held prisoner in Afghanistan and later Guantanamo, and finally set free after years of torture and abuse. The problem is that CBS left out or glossed over significant information that might have made viewers wonder if this man was really telling the truth. Clearly 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley wanted the viewers to believe he was. But the truth might not be so clear.

A gun rights organization in the United States is accusing the media of trying to conceal the fact that a gunman who attacked students at Jerusalem’s Mercaz Harav seminary was stopped by an armed student at the school.
