US Media Distorts Falling Dollar Story
MSM
Warner Todd Huston
What is it with the MSM and their fetish with worrying so much about everyone but Americans? For the L.A.Times, for instance, even the weakness of our dollar is cause for worrying over how bad it is for… wait for it… foreign companies. While our dollar weakens and could perhaps bring us major economic trouble, the L.A.Times shows serious concern(1) and laments that the soft currency crisis is hurting European companies who are finding ‘their’ prices rising because of our falling dollar. The Times is all upset that foreigners are losing profits, but there isn’t a word in its story about what it might do to Americans, befitting its general disinterest in America and perfectly reflecting its heightened concern for foreigners. Worse, the tone of this article serves only to make America look like the bad guy once again, like it’s our fault that the falling dollar is hurting those poor, innocent Europeans.

Let’s hear it for good news from Iraq
MSM
Offsite
THE NEWS from Iraq has been so encouraging in recent months that last week even the mainstream media finally sat up and took notice. Can the Democratic Party be far behind?

Good News Is No News
MSM
Offsite
There’s an old expression about war: “Victory has many fathers, while defeat is an orphan.” But in the case of Iraq, it seems the other way around. We’ve blamed many for the ordeal of the last four years, but it is the American victory in Anbar Province that now seems without parents.

Media Stoking the Fires of Racism - Part II
MSM
Kevin Roeten
Racism is alive and well in America. But mostly from major help from the mainstream media. But much media condemnation seems to come from “driving while black”. It is the claim that police are inherently racist, who assume that any driver that is black is likely involved with something untoward or illegal.

Media Stoking the Fires of Racism - Part I
MSM
Kevin Roeten
How many have overlooked the real cause of racism? It seems the mainstream media has played a direct role. When that is admitted, and the proper actions taken, we will see a significant decrease in racism. The most recent racial episode is a perfect example - the Jena 6 incident in Louisiana. Racism issues stoke the fires of past racism and generate anger with the public. This allows the media to feed like a shark in bloody waters.

Time Magazine Editor: Hillary Clinton a ‘Moral Conservative’
MSM
Offsite
Asked by Thursday night by MSNBC’s Tucker Carlson what are Hillary Clinton’s “core beliefs,” Amy Sullivan, editor of the “Nation” section for Time magazine, conceded “it seems that on social issues, by which I mean kind of welfare and economic issues, she’s fairly liberal,” but Sullivan insisted, “she’s a moral conservative.” Sullivan, who once worked as an aide to Democratic Senator Tom Daschle, justified her contention by contending Clinton “gets behind, you know, things like values issues. She’s endorsed a plan to lower abortion rates...”
‘Obama Campaign Placed Anti-Hillary Stories in Press - Where is MSM Outrage at Being Used?’
MSM
Warner Todd Huston
On Thursday, Chicago Sun-Times columnist Lynn Sweet picked up on a story related by the Atlantic Monthly’s Marc Ambinder that claims that a few months ago the Barack Obama campaign sought to place the Norman Hsu scandal in the press in an effort to create anti-Hillary buzz in the MSM. Such a political “dirty trick” would seem to be a juice story for members of the MSM, wouldn’t it? So, why is Lynn Sweet the only one focusing on this one, anyway? With the sneaky actions of the Obama campaign, one would think that the MSM would be in an uproar for having been used so badly by a political candidate. And, were this a GOP “dirty trick,” it would be sure that news creators the nation over would be wagging their fingers and clucking their tongues at this violation of their purported integrity and independence for being used so by a mere political campaign. But, so far the condemnation of the Obama campaign is nearly nonexistent with this barely even causing a raised eyebrow. Don’t you wonder why that is?

Time Mag Finds ‘Lifelong Republican’ For Obama in Omaha
MSM
Warner Todd Huston
Here we go again with another ridiculous MSM report of a so-called “lifelong Republican” who is slobbering all over himself for a Democrat presidential candidate, this time Barack Obama. And, also, here we go again as an MSM story tries to puff up a small handful of purportedly turncoat Republicans into gargantuan proportions—the veritable mole-hill into a mountain story. This week’s Republicans-gone-Dem story (for the MSM seems to have these weekly anymore) we are treated to Time Magazine’s(1) breathless report of ship-jumpers in Nebraska.

Media Glorifies McGovern Museum Despite Paltry Attendance
MSM
Warner Todd Huston
It looks like A South Dakota museum devoted to the political career of far-left Democrat George McGovern registered 5,000 fewer visitors last year than a Wisconsin museum devoted to mustard. So why all the hype from the Associated Press about how a “Museum about McGovern draws many visitors"(1)? Oh, the AP did their best to make it seem like the George McGovern Legacy Museum is a “surprising” run away success in the world of museums. They go on and on about how there are a “lot of friends” of McGovern around the world and his museum is “interesting” and a “lesson” for our times. But, then they make the mistake of saying how many visitors have come to this thing and it reveals a paltry attendance. So, far from a great success, this so-called museum is not as successful as AP tries to make it seem. So, why is the AP pushing this thing? Could it be because of their affinity for McGovern’s extreme left views? Do they want to urge people to attend to be exposed to McGovern’s failed ideas of the past? This story certainly isn’t about a museum success story, whatever the case may be.

Code Pink Learns from Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week’s Slanderers
MSM
Offsite
Code Pink learned something from the far-Left college students who smeared Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week at George Washington University this month: the liberal establishment is a most effective and willing accomplice in slandering any individual or organization that wants to see an honorable exit from the war in Iraq. This week, Code Pink excelled the success of “Students for Conservativo-Fascism Awareness,” getting the major international media to report its hoax as fact.

‘FBI: LA State Senator is Money Laundering—Did AP Mention He’s a Democrat?’
MSM
Warner Todd Huston
Today it’s being reported that Louisiana State Senator Derrick Shepherd stands accused by the FBI of money laundering. The AP duly reported the messy story(1) surrounding this charge, of course. Their story was long and exhaustive for an AP report. Only one tiny, little thing seems to have been forgotten by the AP. They seem to have forgotten to mention that Shepherd is a Democrat. I know… shocking, eh?

Anti-War Media Change Focus
MSM
Roger Aronoff
With President Bush and Vice President Cheney warning that Iran must not be permitted to obtain nuclear weapons, our media have shifted their focus from Iraq. The shift is apparent in the decision by many reporters to make a controversy out of the fact that Senator Hillary Clinton, the Democratic frontrunner, voted for a resolution declaring the Iranian Revolutionary Guards to be a terrorist force. The resolution states a simple truth, but it has been interpreted by the anti-war media and the far-left in the Democratic Party as war-mongering and saber-rattling.
New News Agency Funded By Left-wing Billionaires, Bias Question Ignored by MSM
MSM
Warner Todd Huston
A new and supposedly nonpartisan news agency named ProPublica(1) is about to start offering free of charge its “investigative journalism” created with “moral force” to newspapers and other news sources soon and so far the announcement has been met with favorable coverage by the MSM. But, ProPublica is being funded by a pair of left-wing billionaires responsible for funding such groups as the Center for American Progress and MoveOn.org and other far left Democrat backing organizations, yet the MSM seems unconcerned that highly partisan, left-wing backers are funding this effort. Somehow, the MSM can’t imagine that any leftist bias could possibly infect this new “news” agency.
