Don’t go away mad, just go away

It’s no secret that Hollywood is liberal, but just how liberal? A few weeks ago, the Center for Responsive Politics released the results of a study. The organization analyzed fundraising data and found that Barack Obama had raked in $4 million from TV, movie and music sources up to that point in the campaign. Hillary Clinton took in $3.4 million, and John McCain got … $636,000.

Why Do Socialists Distort Reality
Progressivism
Tom Segel
Harlingen, Texas, July 18, 2008: Many years ago while living in Japan, I noticed an unusual number of university students were among those who made up the crowds at socialist demonstrations. I asked a professor at the University of Tokyo, Dr. Shiraishi, about this observation and found his reply quite interesting. He told me that college students in Japan were quite poor. The long hours of study made it next to impossible for them to obtain extra work to increase their meager monetary allowances.

Great ideas: unintended consequences
Progressivism
Henry Lamb
It sounded like such a great idea: a minimum wage for all workers – enforced by the government. During his first 100 days in the White House, President Franklin Roosevelt and a Democrat-controlled Congress enacted the Industrial Recovery Act, which established the minimum wage and guaranteed labor unions the right of collective bargaining. They enacted the Agricultural Adjustment Act, which started farm subsidies. Social Security, including unemployment insurance, was added in 1935. These were seen to be wonderful solutions to the effects of the great depression of the 1930s.

Supreme insanity

Once upon a time, in America, if a man stole another man’s horse, he would face the hangman at high noon and justifiably so. Stealing is wrong. But now five liberal judges on the Supreme Court find it perfectly acceptable to rape a man’s child and face nothing more than life in prison. This is progress?

The president isn’t going to blame the Democrats - yet - for not fully supporting a plan that would assure broadcasters in the United States their freedom from government-imposed censorship on their views and comments.
The “progressive” taxman cometh
Progressivism
Henry Lamb
A farmer told two men they each could have all the watermelons they could harvest in four hours. The first man harvested 100 melons; the second man harvested 200 melons. Before they loaded their trucks, an IRS official appeared and told the first man the government required 28 of his melons as tax. The second man, watching the encounter, began counting out 56 melons for the taxman. The IRS official said to the second man: ‘no, that’s not enough, the government requires 70 of your melons.’

Energy is too important to be left to businessmen and markets, right? We need people whom we really can trust to get things under control. Like politicians.

Why did Hugo Chavez and Rafael Correa, presidents, for now, of Venezuela and Ecuador, do it? What made them change - seemingly overnight - from fiery, fearsome supporters of the terrorist, narco-trafficking Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces [FARC], to princes of peace, pleading with FARC’s bloodthirsty gangs to stop their war against Colombia’s government and people, and to free hundreds of kidnapped hostages?
