With a Democratic Congress for the first time since 1993, it was only a matter of time until some of the Party’s favorite constituents came forward to claim their rewards. Within weeks of her coronation Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) informed the media that one of her first priorities was the passage of the so-called Employee Free Choice Act, something that big labor has been wanting for over a decade. The House version of the bill, H.R. 800, passed on March 1, 2007 by a vote of 241-185. If the Senate were to pass it, which is doubtful, the President has stated he would invoke his rarely used veto.

I generally do not watch television.  It bores me.  During the baseball off-season, when I watch TV I generally tune into the Fox News Channel, A&E and sometimes PBS if there’s a Monty Python rerun or some 1960’s rock n’ roll retrospective.  I might occasionally indulge in some cheesy reality TV on MTV or VH1 on the weekend.  I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that I am a huge fan of both professional wrestling and South Park.  OK, who am I kidding?  I do watch a lot of television.  However, I generally don’t watch network television - FOX, ABC, NBC, or CBS (with the exception of 60 Minutes).

Writers such as myself devote a lot of ink to the species known as liberals.  And when you carry your banners openly on the field of battle, you define yourself and relinquish any pretense at that most illusory quality, impartiality.  This places you in the crosshairs, although you can take solace in knowing that your adversaries will always miss left.

The recent death of Professor Schlesinger brings to mind his wonderfully well-written historical surveys.  It also reminds us of the misguided liberalism he ardently espoused.

Many antiwar activists are so cut off from reality that they imagine America’s defeat in the Middle East without consequence. Even when the root causes of terrorism clearly lie in that region of the world, those nostalgic for the 1970s continue undermine our efforts there, and to search for ways to “blame America” for its barbarism.

Well, here I go again writing about Oprah.  I’m only doing it because of the overwhelming response I received from a previous article, Oprah Peddling Snake Oil. [1] In my article I stated the “inconvenient truth” about Oprah.  She is not a Christian, although she says she is.  My comment elicited a host of angry emails from liberals criticizing me for “judging Oprah.”

What is it about the New York Times where they can’t stay above their talking points even when trying to interest the people in a higher level of political discussion and debate?

We can count on government planners to produce the most inefficient projects conceivable by the human mind.  Manhattan’s Freedom Tower, intended to rise on the site of 9/11 destruction, is an egregious example.

Secret ballot elections, though not prefect, are the best means with which to insure each man has just one vote. Labor Unions are attempting to justify the removal of free and fair elections in the unionization process. The thinking goes that since secret ballot elections are not perfect, we should do away with them altogether. In their place, according to the Unions, should be a system called “Card Check”.

The Academy Awards, the Left’s perennial exercise in gushing self-congratulation, is blessedly over.  The ideological spitballs were not as prevalent this year (I am informed - I never watch Leftist slop), but even the awards by putatively conservative filmmakers like Clint Eastwood were for films like Letters from Iwo Jima, which put a “human face” on the behavior of the Japanese Army, whose inhumanity surpassed even the Waffen SS and the Red Army in the Second World War (yes, that misunderstood Heinrich Himmler!)

Irvine, CA--America has long been known as the country in which individuals, no matter where they begin in life, have the freedom necessary to achieve great success--to live the American Dream. Yet the critics of “income inequality,” complaining about high CEO pay, endless “dead-end jobs,” and allegedly low “social mobility,” say that the American Dream has become a fiction--and that the government must come to the rescue with new welfare spending.

Hoping for the best, the magazine TIME showed its worst. With quotes from Deborah Woods(Asheville Pregnancy Support Services) one had to think “At last, a conservative viewpoint from a liberal magazine.” Having the interview in the writer’s home town, hopes were dashed. 

A group known as the Coalition For Positive Sexuality operates a website which is geared toward teenaged girls and actually promotes promiscuity, homosexuality, and even abortion. The group was founded in Chicago by homosexual groups ACT-UP and Queer Nation. The aberrant behavior touted on their website is yet another frightening instance of the extreme left attempting to pervert our children.
