I discovered yesterday that Bonnie Erbe at U.S. News and World Report wrote a column in response to my “Women Are Not Oppressed” piece. She then penned a follow up as well. Ostensibly, the reason for her devoting so much time to this issue is twofold. First, she wants to show people what uneducated bumpkins we internet writers are, and second, she wants to put a stop to any notion that women are not disadvantaged in America. As the reader may surmise, she fails in meeting either objective.

As I mentioned in previous comments on S. 388 (the nationwide concealed carry permit recognition bill introduced by U.S. Representative John Thune, R-S.D.) the very idea of carrying weapons made uniform nationwide can impeach the need for many social programs which are based on a theory of violence.

Last weekend, United for Peace and Justice staged a rally in Washington DC to protest the war in Iraq and were backed by the usual left wing Marxist suspects.  Lest I be accused of “McCarthyism” by those with their heads firmly planted in the sand, please be aware that the list of supporters of this group and this protest is freely available on United for Peace and Justice’s own website.  This list contains more than a few groups who, unlike this front group, are bold enough to freely use the terms “socialist” and “communist” in their names.

Now she wants to ‘steal’ profits from companies that she deems as too successful and use them for her Marxist/Progressive/Socialist schemes.

Insight magazine, under fire by the Huffington Post website and other “progressives” for running a story about Hillary Clinton operatives looking into Barack Obama’s alleged attendance at a radical Islamic school, has been cited as a credible source on more than a half dozen occasions by the Huffington Post itself. In fact, one of the Insight stories cited by the Huffington Post as legitimate concerned plans by the Hillary Clinton for President campaign to deal with the threat posed by an Obama candidacy. This article cited “sources close to Ms. Clinton.”

Hanoi Jane, when she was followed by Fox News reporters attempting to have a civil dialogue with her, generally ignored them, living up to her status as the same little girl thirty-five years ago on the Dick Cavett Show could not answer a simple question about whether or not the French had supplied the American Revolutionaries with arms, troops, ships and supplies.  As always with Sinisterists like Hanoi Jane, it is not that she is so much ignorant - although she is profoundly ignorant - but that she is willfully and proudly ignorant.  Give Hanoi Jane Stalinism, Nazism, Maoism, American Leftism or any other totalitarian ideology, and that is all she needs to know.  Facts, to the extent that they enter her consciousness, fit into where they should:  square pegs into round holes, triangles into ovals, and so forth.

The ratings book has been published and the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric didn’t do very well. The evening news broadcast came in 3rd among the big three. As the golden chairs at CBS scramble to effect job security in the face of these dismal ratings we are being told that their failure is our fault. It would seem that we are biased against poor Katie Couric.

American labor unions are pushing candidates for the Democratic Party’s 2008 presidential nomination toward expansion of the welfare-state and massive inflation of the sort that the Great Society spawned.

Contrary to what John McCain says, the global warming debate is not
over.  In fact, there has never even been a debate.  Dissent has been
silenced by global warming totalitarians such as Jay Rockefeller and
Olympia Snowe, both of whom have behaved disgracefully.  There is
even talk that doubters should be put on trial merely for holding a
different opinion.  Concentration camps, too?

On Sunday, Jan 28, the front-page story in my daily newspaper was “A chilling conclusion on global warming.” By Tuesday, the front page story was “Climate Study: Millions will go hungry and dry.” Soon more revelations about a United Nations report on climate change, due in April, will be in the news, but let me tell you its conclusion. We’re doomed.

Like Henry A. Kissinger, former Speaker Newt Gingrich is brilliant out of office. But many observers agree that both left something to be desired. Kissinger said all the correct things about defeating the Communists at their own game of power politics. That caused no less than William F. Buckley to introduce Kissinger to President-elect Richard M. Nixon. Once in office, first as National Security Advisor and later as Secretary of State, Kissinger proved to be a disaster. Gingrich in office was only a disappointment, not a disaster. We now know that there were things in his personal life which at times clouded his vision. Remember, it was conservatives who did him in, not Democrats. After the 1998 election, with its razor-thin victory for Republicans in the House of Representatives, a dozen conservatives informed the Republican Leadership that they would not vote for Gingrich as Speaker under any circumstance. That was when Tom DeLay and others in the GOP Leadership told Gingrich that the ball game was over.

The New York Times thinks you are a criminal if you own a gun. The editorial writers at the Times simply don’t believe that you could possibly be a law abiding citizen if you are interested in self defense, their most recent anti-gun piece reveals.

The Demercrats like to say “the people spoke” in November 2006.  And they claim “the people” endorsed Progressivism with the vote and they have a mandate to move the country further to the Left as fast as possible.

(Washington, DC) Judicial Watch, the public interest group promotes transparency, accountability and integrity in government, politics and the law, announced today that a U.S. District Court in Missouri denied a request by the American Civil Liberties Union lawyers made on behalf of a member of the Westboro Baptist Church to prevent the state from enforcing its statute limiting protests “in or about” the location of funeral services (Shirley L. Phelps-Roper v. Jeremiah W. Nixon, et al., No. 06-cv-4156-FJG).  The ACLU filed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the law on behalf of protesters who disrupted military funerals by picketing and conducting other protest activities.
