‘What Comes Before a Fall?’
Government
Robert R. Owens
That the slow-motion revolution non-partisan serial “bail-out” is more about government control and central-planning than about keeping the economy afloat becomes m ore apparent every day. When some of banks who were extorted into accepting bailout funds by the Republican statists saw the magnitude of control the central-planners at Treasury want to exert they saw the error of their ways. When they sought to return the money the Democrat statists refused to accept. If it’s all about maintaining financial institutions for the good of the economy what could be a better example of banks ready to stand on their own then ones seeking to repay tax-payers money? The government is showing their colors, they‘re more concerned with controlling the financial institutions and the economy than they are with saving them.

Today is Patriots’ Day!
Government
J. D. Longstreet
I’ll bet that you did not know that today is Patriots Day! Well, it IS! It is a real, live, CIVIC holiday set aside to honor, specifically, the minutemen who stood against the British at Lexington and Concord. These were the very first battles that kicked off the Revolutionary War in America, which led directly to our independence from Great Britain.

Eight Simple Rules for Taxing My Country
Government
Thomas Lindaman
It’s time for my annual plea for tax sanity, but this year’s plea is going to be a little different. With a new President comes a new group of people who haven’t had an opportunity to read my columns. However, I do know the Obama Administration is reading my columns because I was emailed a dead fish from Rahm Emanuel last week.

Ambassadorial Appointments - Risk and Rumor
Government
Marion Edwyn Harrison
The Barack H. Obama/Hillary Rodham Clinton White House/Department of State has not been speedy in announcing ambassadorial appointments. This per se is not necessarily troublesome. However, some rumors suggest trouble. Washington gossip, depending upon the experience and knowledge of those gossiping, sometimes contains sizeable chunks of accuracy, especially when the gossip is analyzed.

Memo to Obama: Laughter no substitute for leadership
Government
John David Powell
President Barack Obama’s performance on “The Tonight Show” last week prompted various friends and colleagues to discuss the question of leadership. No one came up with a definition suitable for nailing to the wall or turning into a message to scroll across the computer screen. I suggested it may be one of those things we know when we don’t see it. Kinda the reverse of former Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart’s description of hard-core pornography. He knew it when he saw it.

Public Transit Approaches Yet-Distant Fruition: Efforts of Paul M. Weyrich and Other Experts Become
Government
Marion Edwyn Harrison
The late Paul M. Weyrich not only founded Free Congress Foundation effective 31 years ago but also achieved expertise and leadership in the cause of public transit, particularly rail and light rail. He served six years on the AMTRAK Board and was a National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commissioner. Before his untimely December 18, 2008 death, with our colleague and expert William S. Lind, Paul Weyrich co-authored the study GOOD URBAN TRANSIT: A CONSERVATIVE MODEL, published February 2009. Paul Weyrich deservedly is remembered for his significant roles in promoting and attempting to preserve cultural and political conservatism and the fundamentals of morality. People who focus upon the prevailing transportation troubles of our country, not unexpectedly a smaller number, recognize the extensive Weyrich transportation role.

While we still have a voice
Government
Carolyn Hileman
I am well aware that this is Thanksgiving week and I am also aware that most of us are feeling more than a little trounced after the election but I come to you today to ask the question, are we finished? Was the election of Obama the end of us? I will be honest I still have a lot of questions regarding the election and since the bail out passed with the people telling them no, I have to wonder if the elections did not follow in that direction as well. I must admit the urge to say the hell with it and walk away is growing by leaps and bounds since a lot of me wonders just how long after the inauguration we will be allowed to speak freely, and the fact is even though we spoke freely before the election, we either did not get our point across, or no one was listening, or this election was rigged from the start. I will be honest I went to the polls and voted knowing in my heart that it did not matter how many of us voted against him since there really is no way of knowing how many people voted who were not supposed to.

Barack Obama’s Bucket Brigade
Government
Jayme Evans
Now that Democrats have finally finished pleasuring themselves, perhaps we can all come back down to Earth for just a moment and face reality. There’s a lot of tough work ahead and Barack Obama is woefully unprepared for the task at hand. Although he won the election, he also laid bare his innumerable weaknesses and set his own expectations so incredibly high, he may never live up to them.
