Yet Another Lettuce Rant
Progressivism
Malcolm T. Hedges
Just for grins, Lettuce briefly discuss gun control.
Victim Disarmament Zone, Part II: What Do We Do About It?
Elections
John Longenecker
Good For The Country as a syndicated feature isn’t for gun owners; the feature is written for the non-gun owner and heads of household who may be hearing what is at issue for the very first time, looking for just how to protect their kids at home and away from home, such as at school, in church and in shopping malls.
Special Report: How Hillary’s Hit Man Got Imus
Elections
Cliff Kincaid
Do you think something is fishy about the Don Imus affair? Why was the boom lowered on him at this time? The answer may have something to do with his main accuser, the Media Matters group, which is emerging as a front organization for Senator Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and has extensive ties to the national Democratic Party. In firing Imus, NBC News and CBS got rid of one of Hillary’s major political enemies in the media.

Canadian novelist and veteran documentary filmmaker Martyn Burke is not someone you’d expect to get into an ugly ideological spitting match with the folks who run PBS.

The First Amendment to the US federal constitution was written in 1789, and was ratified by the States in 1791. It states: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” The interpretation of the First Amendment and in particular its first clause, referred to as the “Establishment of Religion” or “Establishment” clause, has a direct bearing on how federally- funded public schools can teach religion. Alan Brownstein, a constitutional law expert from the University of California at Davis’ School of Law states: “From a constitutional perspective, schools can’t teach the truth or falsity of religious belief, and atheism would fall in that parameter.”

Last week the Ayn Rand Institute co-sponsored, together with UCLA’s Club L.O.G.I.C., a panel discussion titled Totalitarian Islam’s Threat to the West. This controversial and emotionally-charged event, which drew protests and widespread media attention, was a great success with a standing-room-only crowd of about 550 people. Now you can watch a video recording of this panel discussion, free of charge, on the Registered User page of the Ayn Rand Institute’s Web site.
Enforcing Current Immigration Laws Is the Answer
Immigration
Jim Kouri
There are numerous news stories regarding criminal acts by illegal aliens. In just the last few weeks, for example, Mexican illegals attacked US National Guard troops who retreated ON AMERICAN SOIL because our political leaders in Washington refuse to allow those troops to carry and use weapons.

A cross section of articles and interviews about the Imus snafu has
produced pretty much only similar results. Everyone is agreeing that he
went too far and that if he should be made to pay, then maybe Hip Hop
should ante up as well. Is maybe strong enough?
“Gay” Goliath Lobs Dud at CWA; Aims for Clever, Lands on Silly

Matt Barber
The pro-homosexual Human Rights Campaign (HRC) has asked Concerned Women for America (CWA) to the political Jitterbug dance; and though CWA don’t swing that way, we’ll make an exception this one time. ... Invitation accepted.
Don Imus Gets Oprahcized
PoliticalCorrectness
Bernard Chapin
In Chicago, one must pity the atheists. Imagine how difficult it is to argue that Heaven and Hell are a fairy tale when one of the Devil’s chief operatives makes daily broadcasts from a fashionable address in the West Loop. Of course, the operative I refer to is none other than the phenomenally successful multi-billionaire, and supposedly oppressed person, Oprah Winfrey.
A Free Congress Forum on the Fairness Doctrine: Free Speech at Risk
Progressivism
Paul M. Weyrich
Conservatism survives and continues to evolve no matter who holds the majority in Congress or lives in the White House. Our essays and panel discussions on “The New Conservatism” have been honing the finer points of theory and practice for several years. However, if the current Congress gets its way over the next few months or if the President in the next term is a Democrat it will be nearly impossible for us to get the word out on radio anymore.

Why some freewheeling Westerners so easily morph into fanatical Islamists. - Interest has recently been renewed in the puzzling phenomenon of Western-raised Islamic militants--in “Australian Taliban” David Hicks, who received a surprisingly light sentence for his armed involvement with al Qaeda; in “American Taliban” John Walker Lindh, whose parents and lawyers are renewing their attempts to have his 20-year sentence for serving as a Taliban fighter commuted by President Bush; and in “Jihad Jack” Thomas, who also received al Qaeda training and was charged with being a terrorist “sleeper” agent.
Another Victim Disarmament Zone Shooting, 32 Dead. Thank You, Congress. Thanks a Lot!
Big Brother
John Longenecker
This visitation of death against Virginia Tech University this week is a direct result of gun laws banning weapons within 1,000 feet of a school—the victim disarmament zone is as advertised once more. Sure the shoote ris to blame, but Congress ahers the blame not only for shootings, but for any instance of disarming citizens who could have resisted with all legal authority and use of force. Why obfuscate or discourage this legal authority?
Why You Should Own a Gun

The murders on the Virginia Tech campus, the worst such rampage in our history, might have been mitigated if just one member of the faculty or a student had the means to return fire.

G.W. Bush, CD of U.S. Advertising, Inc,
Big Brother
James T. Moore
G.W. Bush has the “horse apples” pitch down pat. Which is basically the forte of the creative director of an advertising agency. For the uninitiated, the responsibility of a creative director (CD) is to (l) understand the mechanism of persuasion, and (2) be an expert at “image” making: influencing the public to believe what you want them to believe. Having been the CD of two ad agencies, it is this technique of saturating the brain with dazzling hyperbole that I was pretty good at. So, when I say that Bush makes a good CD, I know whereof I speak.
