Forget Impeachment, Bring in a PsychotherapistGeorge W. Bush sorely needs help, and quickly, in several distinct areas of mental deviation. I don’t say this maliciously or vengefully, but neither do I say it lightly. Each day, by a personal appearance, a decision, or a speech Bush reveals again that he is losing control of his mental machinery, notwithstanding his schoolboy grin, his I’m-in-command posture, and his pseudo-soldier demeanor.
The President, as if it were difficult to notice, is suffering, unfortunately, from a self-inflicted amalgum of emotional sicknesses: including self-denial, bogus reality, unhealthy egocentricity, visions of omnipotence, and dangerous delusions—as when he claims God speaks to him.
Although several prominent and well-respected psychiatrists have written reports about Bush’s condition---from treating identical symptoms in hundreds of similar personalities---one hardly needs a doctorate in psychology to recognize that something is wrong, not only with Bush’s bizarre thinking, but with the decisions he makes based on that thinking.
Bush Unconsciously Rejects the Truth.
It is not just Bush’s inability to TELL the difference between truth and lies (right and wrong) it is his inability to KNOW the difference between the two. And therein lies a legal (though not necessarily clinical) definition of insanity. But even if he could bring the truth up into his consciousness--- he would not, because exposing it might, in effect, end his Presidency and perhaps even destroy the man himself.
This unique mental affliction is present to some degree in most people, and is harmful only in a superficial sense. But when the President of the United States has this psychological illness it affects millions of people, as well as the nation, which makes it especially dangerous.
Bush Cannot Accept His Fallibility.
George Bush cannot, does not, and will not admit that he makes mistakes. Thus, it must be agony for him when he occasionally is “forced” to soften his stance and state that he “takes full responsibility” for the continual violence in Iraq. And there are a myriad of circumstances that quintessentially indicate a mind out of balance. Examples: Bush will not admit that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11; that most foreign countries disagree with our policy of interference in the Middle East; that the majority of Americans believe that the war in Iraq was a mistake; that his “war on terror” here at home has obliterated some of our Constitutional rights; that detainees in American prison camps are mistreated and held without charge. Bush won’t even admit that his presidency is inching toward a “lame duck” status, when his unchallenged power will come to an end. It’s not that these things are true, it’s that Bush, in his cozy cocoon of self-delusion, doesn’t see them as true.
Bush Believes That God Plays Favorites
The most frightening aspect of Bush’s mentality may well be that his objectives, orders, and decisions are based on the false premise that God is on his side. Not OUR side, mind you, HIS side. Bush does not understand how any American would dare question his decisions when God has chosen him to free the world from tyranny. To even question that is not only traitorous in Bush’s eyes but also a bold defiance of God’s word.
Any sane person knows that God, as Spirit, does not take sides. He is as available for spiritual help and guidance to Muslims as He is to Christians. Only a person with serious mental problems would think otherwise. Moreover, a person who claims direct communication with the Almighty will rule a nation as, in his own mind, he believes God wants it to be ruled. But history plainly tells us what happens to rulers (and nations) that believe they have exclusive communication with God and therefore know precisely what the Unthinkable One is thinking.
Rejection of the truth. Inability to admit mistakes. Belief that God plays favorites. The person who is a victim of any one of these aberrant thoughts needs counseling. But the person who is cursed with all three at the same time is in deep psychological trouble.
And if that mentally ill person happens to be the leader of a nation, the freedom-loving citizens of that nation have their work cut out for them.
